Tucked away in the North Wales countryside, The Barn at Faenol Fawr is one of those venues that manages to balance rustic charm with a really clean, modern feel. Exposed beams, stonework, and loads of character, without sacrificing space or light—ideal for photography, especially on an overcast autumn day like this one. The clouds gave us soft, even light all day long—perfect for natural moments and relaxed portraits.
Jess & Alun’s wedding had a proper feel to it. No stress, no fuss—just loads of personality, emotion, and the kind of crowd that doesn’t need much of an excuse to have a good time.

Wedding Prep @ Faenol Fawr
The day started nice and easy at Faenol Fawr, just across the way from the barn. Jess and the crew were getting ready in one of the main rooms, and there was a solid mix of excitement and proper emotional moments—plenty going on to document.
The dress and details were laid out early doors, and everything felt intentional but relaxed. Hair and makeup were underway, and the room had a nice energy to it—some nerves, a lot of laughs, and the occasional pause for a deep breath.
A few standout moments here too: alterations with Becky, who held it all together like a pro, and then the dress reveal with Jess’s mum, nan and bridesmaids—proper reactions all round.

The Gents met at the bar
Alun and the lads were getting sorted nearby—buttonholes getting pinned, jackets on, and a bit of light-hearted chaos with the kids in the mix, which made for some cracking candid shots.
We managed to sneak in some group and solo shots before it was time to get over to the barn. Alun kept it cool throughout—steady and ready for the day ahead.

Ceremony @ The Barn
The ceremony space at Faenol Fawr is one of the best—rustic without being dark, and it’s got real presence when it’s all dressed up. Jess made her entrance to a full house, and from that moment, the whole thing flowed perfectly.
Vows were heartfelt, rings went on smoothly, and the kiss got a full round of applause. We made sure to grab the signing shots with the witnesses, and then a few with the kids included, which were some of the most genuine photos of the day.
The exit was big—loads of smiles, hugs, and a quick breather before heading straight into…

Drinks Reception
After confetti and the main group shot of the entire wedding party, it was time for drinks. Jess & Alun allowed themselves a little time to settle with guests and enjoy a drink, before I took them away for their couples shoot. We kept it simple using the open space around the venue, and some of the textured backdrops for a really natural set of portraits.
After that, we got through group photos which flew by thanks to a really well-organised bunch.
Meanwhile, the venue décor looked sharp—nothing overdone, just a really tasteful setup with strong autumn tones and a proper attention to detail.

Wedding Breakfast & Speeches
As everyone settled into the wedding breakfast, there was a buzz about the place. But no one expected what came next—singing waiters. Totally caught people off guard and had Alan (and a few others) absolutely in bits. Solid reactions, and the kind of unexpected lift that brings a whole new energy to a wedding day.

Free Time
After food and a bit of breathing space, we managed to take advantage of the ambient up lighting on the main house for a couples shoot, using some off camera flash. We kept it fun and loose—just the two of them, taking it in.

Evening Do
Back inside, the cake was cut with the kind of enthusiasm you'd expect from this crowd, and straight after it was into the first dance—no fuss, just a proper moment between Jess & Alun, with the lights down and the dancefloor ready.
From there, it was full party mode. The place was bouncing, and the atmosphere carried well into the night.

Top Day. Top People.
Jess & Alun’s wedding had that mix of calm and celebration, style and simplicity. The Barn at Faenol Fawr gave them the perfect backdrop, and they brought the kind of energy and warmth that makes this job a joy to shoot.
Thanks again for having me along.
