St. Davids Cathedral, Pembrokeshire - Ceri & Simon

One of my many passions outside of Photography is to travel. When in the UK, I love nothing more than to disappear to the Coast in my VW T5 Campervan. In 2017, my wife and I took a trip, south, to Pembrokeshire and spent several days discovering what this stunning coastal area had on offer. The stand out location and memory for us, was St Davids. Aside from the sublime weather and location, there was a wonderful vibe down there as well as many things to keep us entertained. Anyone who has experienced St. Davids will have images of the unbelievably grand Cathedral etched in their memory. I left, wondering if I'd ever get the opportunity to capture a wedding there. Forward 2 years to 2019....

Ceri, the Bride, grew up in St. Davids, hence the connection to the Cathedral. Now living in North Wales with Simon, I was contacted to check my availability and to discuss photography requirements. I was available so it was a 'no-brainer' and with the journey easily over an 8 hour round trip, it called for an adventure in the VW. After, driving down the morning before, I awoke on the morning of the wedding to some beautiful views before heading to Ceri's family home for 'Wedding Preparation'.

As a Wedding Photographer, I am lucky to get the opportunity to work at some incredible locations, with some awesome people. Ceri & Simon were no exception. Their family and friends were so accommodating and made my work a lot easier. Organising everyone together for a mass group shot can be quite difficult with so many people, and it was imperative to me that I captured as much of the cathedral in the shot as possible. Fortunately the guests were extremely cooperative and with my Sigma 14-24mm Art f2.8 lens mounted to my Canon 5D MkIV Camera, I was able to get the result that I wanted. Then I had the opportunity to wander the grounds with the newlyweds.

The evening reception was held at the lovely Wolfscastle Hotel, in the town of Wolfscastle, 25 minutes east of St Davids. This was ideal for me as I was now 25 minutes closer on my long journey north, after the wedding. We were welcomed to a lovely country hotel with a modern, light and airy space for the wedding reception attached to the side and around the back, with a lovely garden area. The Drinks reception, wedding breakfast and Party all took place here. I always like to see personal detail that couples put into their big day. I had a travel theme at my wedding, whilst, as Scout leaders, Ceri & Simon opted for a Scout, Cubs and Beavers theme. It looked great!

Sunflowers were predominant throughout the day so I had to find a way to incorporate them into a meaningful image. I always like to capture the detail of the day such as the rings and flowers, so thought of a lovely way to show all of these elements off together. These bouquets were amazing, created by the extremely talented St Davids Flowers. Then the night do/party could commence!

I wish both Ceri & Simon a lifetime of happiness together. I loved capturing their day with great friends and family. If you know of anyone that might be getting married at St Davids or anywhere else in the world, and are in need of a wedding photographer to capture their day, please spread the word.

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Williams!!!
